The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients as ordered by Physicians.

This includes:

  • Performing ultrasound procedures following the SPUH ultrasound scanning protocol appropriate to the ages of the patients.

  • Must be able to recognize normal from abnormal anatomy in order to make proper preliminary diagnosis.
  • Assists Perinatologists during imaging and/or interventional procedures.
  • Assists in training of co-workers, Fellows, Residents, Medical students and ultrasound students. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care.
  • Preparing patient for ultrasound procedure- this includes proper clothing, educating patient and family - if pediatric patient ease fears.

  • Assisting Radiologist to obtain a diagnosis

  • Determining when a patient should be held until their physician is contacted with results of the procedure

  • Accurately recording a complete technologist 'note' to include all pertinent information concerning the exam/procedure.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an approved school of medical ultrasound technology.

  • Requires national registry in ultrasound (RDMS)

  • Requires communication skills sufficient for effective communication with patients, physicians and staff.

  • BLS Certified.
