The Certified Cancer Registrar is responsible for case finding, accurate retrieval and data entry, and follow-up of all reportable tumors in accordance with the data standards of the Commission on Cancer and the New Jersey State Department of Health. May work from home remotely 50-70% of the time; some on-site time hours required.

This includes:

  • Maintaining 95% abstracting quality in accordance with the Commission on Cancer, the New Jersy State Cancer Registry and department specific requirements.
  • Ensuring that physician staging is complete and accurate.                                
  • Providing assistance with data requests, report preparation and other registry tasks required of an accredited cancer program.        
  • Providing clerical support for multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Reviewing case finding sources to identify new cases and readmissions.

 Requirements:

  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR).
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, cancer diagnosis and treatment modalities, and basic statistics, generally acquired through completion of an Associate's Degree, preferably in Health Information Management or Technology or a health-related field of study. 
  • Familiarity with the accreditation requirements of the American College of Surgeons. 
  • Knowledge of New Jersey State Department of Health cancer registry reporting requirements, case finding methodology, and abstracting of cancer data is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
